Well, I was going to be holding my nose when voting for McCain this fall, but there is no doubt I am very pleased with his pick for VP, Sarah Palin. Her bio not only makes me feel better about the ticket but it sounds like she is someone I'd like to know or live next to. I was nearly in tears laughing when the Obama spokesman was complaining of her lack of experience. WTF? Your main guy has less experience than an ice cream truck driver at managing anything. At least she's RUN SOMETHING...And Biden represents change? Uh yeah...riiiiight! He's an experienced dumbass Washington insider (I guess sometimes the best change is no change, eh?) . But seriously, in all his time in Washington, what the hell has he EVER done except get his son a pretty nice job.

Watch out! The future (possible) overlord Lord Obama tolerates no dissent. In case you don't know what I mean, take a look at the police thuggery on ABC news producer Asa Eslocker--And the Dems complain about Republican fascists. That's rich! I guess they don't want us to know where their fat cat money comes from. Fact is, they want to silence any other view that isn't in line with their vision.

Sheesh! Does anyone thing images of the police or security pushing people into the street is a good thing? If it weren't at the Dem Convention you'd be hearing people screaming bloody murder.

Make no mistake. I'm sick of the poor job Republicans have done too but you are fooling yourself if you thing the Dems with make a difference. Nancy P has really rallied the troops in Congress hasn't she? HA!
I am all for a new broom sweeping clean. McCain sure isn't my first choice the financial disaster that awaits all of us if Obama is elected will be a mess. It's just common sense and first year economics, people.

Im just learning about her today and so far, am liking what I see. I agree, McCain wouldnt have been my first choice but lesser of the evils and all that :) This might just make it better if she works out as well as it seems she will.

Now, Im not one of the people who are all thrilled that finally a woman has been tapped by the GOP for such a thing, I couldn't care less to be honest and am not entirely sure I'm all "for" a woman president, but at least she's the kind of woman I would pick for the job if I had to choose one!

They're kicking me out of the girls club for that aren't they? :)

I've seen interviews with her before and I like how she takes on people in either party. She has to get past this ethics charge but she was saying earlier "Bring it on."
I normally don't post political things here because I don't feel I'm going to change any minds and people (especially in the last few years) seem to be batshit crazy about their choices. But you are dead on about the lesser of two evils. This was just the tipping point for me. I wasn't sure I was even voting this year (first time in over 30 years).
It really doesn't matter to me if it's a woman or not. I keep hearing the media talk about how its a ploy to get HClinton voters but that's just divisive talk designed to inflame people. For my candidates, I want problem solvers in office, not cronies (of either party).

Did you ever get the smokey smell out of Cocoa?

I heard one today that Glenn Beck had done sometime earlier in the year about the oil reserves in Alaska and she was very well spoken I thought.

I very, very rarely post anything political because Im not good at even defending my position on things, much less changing somebody elses mind. I may know what Im talking about or how I feel without a doubt, I always back down first and smile and nod and walk away *G*

Cocoa is now smoke-free thank goodness! He sure did hate that bath though :)

If nothing else the VP debates should be well worth watching.

I agree with much of what you said. I'm not a big McCain fan but I just don't get the Obama worship.
I do agree 100% that Nancy P and the rest of the Dems will do more damage than good.

I agree with that wholeheartedly. I love good debate.
I amended my entry because I said Biden was a dumbass. That sounds like something I've seen a lot of lately coming from the left. But both sides indulge in name calling and I shouldn't have expressed an opinion that wasn't relevant to the issues (besides, I don't have all day after all).
Any more, I liken politics to the state of baseball. Time was (back when the Big Red Machine was around), that I could tell you every player's name and stats and trivia. Now I don't know who 3/4 of the players are and I bet they aren't even sure where their home team's city is. Both politics and baseball are a bunch of nameless faces in it for whatever they can get and then they get out and leave the messes for others to clean up. The accept their positions knowing that the fans/citizens give them that position with full faith they will do their best. Instead, we get people who just show up to get the check. It's certainly the government we deserve.
None of the Rep. candidates were my choice. My vote comes down to who will do the least damage in the next four years.

"holding my nose when voting for McCain" sounds like a yellow dog republican. That's me. Or was. I am so disgusted wtih the way things have been going that I had made up my mind long ago to vote democrat this time around. And then Biden appeared on the ticket.
Geesh. What is up with the democtatic party. Is that really the best they can do? It was said there was no way he could choose Clinton because they couldn't reveal their finances then he pick Biden.

I disagree with that assessment (it's not a flattering term either) because I'm voting for who will do the least damage to the country (at least as I see it). A yellow dog Democrat (the original version of the phrase) or Republican would vote for a yellow dog before voting for an opposing party candidate. That's not true of me. If I really believe Obama meant half the things he said (I don't) and could get one-quarter of it done (ambitious for any candidate), I would consider it but he won't. Biden was the nail in his coffin for independent voters. Biden is as much about "change" as Cheney is. To quote Joe Hill, Obama's promising "pie in the sky" to too many people (although he's backed down from his initial far left rhetoric) and, if he wins, the results will be unpleasant for working people, especially small business owners. These candidates don't want to lift people up, they want to create even MORE dependence on the government, to add to their power. They don't want to create self-reliance, they want to turn our countrymen into something like the Matrix, where our lives are an illusion, letting us believe everything is just so, when in fact they are leeching our lives away for their gain. They don't want to build anyone up. They want to tear us all down to the same level. While I believe that's true of both parties, with the announcement of Sarah Palin, I have a little hope again.
My family historically voted Republican (except for those troublemaker Dems who married into the family :) My family were small business people and ran a farm as their sole means of support but as little as they had, they couldn't support a democrat agenda (and back then, hard core Dems (think Harry Truman) were like middle of the road Republicans today, nothing like the freak show we see on the news). They believed that less government was essential for their success (this was before many of the subsidies that encourage farmers NOT to grow crops). They believed in paying taxes but not excessively, they believed in voting and in taking part in the local community. I wish I could be half the citizen they were.
Now back to your "yellow dog Republican" comment...I haven't voted along party lines since the mid 80s and after the last eight to ten years, I won't ever again. The blown opportunities, the grandiose self-serving people we've had in office disgust me (all parties). The fawning and the payoffs aren't serving the country, they are serving self-interest, retirement funds and cronyism. Never again.
My sister Elaine was a hard core conservative for years (she lives not far from Washington), but she recently changed her voting registration to Independent (I think I've already done that, I should check I guess).
I've several books documenting the "shenanigans" of Congress through the last six or seven administrations and it sickens me. McCain is an ok guy but he and I have very little in common. I have even less in common with the other side.

It was not my intention to insult you with the yellow dog comment.
In the past I, too, had voted for the one that I felt would do the least damage. I know, what an awful way to look at things but there was nobody good running. Both parties seem to be out for what they can do for themselves rather than what they can do for America. But me, I am ready for a change. Not yet committed but I am leaning that way.
I usually don't take a hard look at candidates until after primaries so I will be doing that now.

Aw heck Dave, I knew that. I just meant that when that term was first used, it wasn't meant to be flattering. It's because of voters like that though, that we have the mess we have in Washingtong. My sister used to write me and tell me that we (meaning outside of the beltway) never heard half the stuff that goes on there. Now I can believe it. I'm especially disappointed in our local representatives. Whenever I listen to Brian Thomas, who I can't stand, I feel he goes easy on our reps like Chabot, Schmidt etc. especially local government people too (like city council and county reps, who are Dems). I'm cool with him asking the hard questions to Democrats (except for the Gov, not many in office right now) but I expect Chabot to get hard questions too (and he never does on that program). Brian Thomas is Jerry Thomas' son and got his job there because of his dad. He proclaims to be a Libertarian but I'm closer to Libertarian than he'll ever be. Now, to be fair, he WILL talk about the bad things our reps do, but when they are on the air, it's kid gloves time
I'm with you on "after the primaries." This is too exhausting and I'm just an onlooker!

ok
Now it is clear to me what you are saying. Listen to your elders (me). I have not been involved in politics since I was too young to vote - I loved JFK - RFK - MLK. The people who REALLY cared and I feel the world would have been a different place had they lived. I have not been involved or voted because I feel they (politicians) all are phonies. (AND I WAS a Jehovah's witness for awhile, which discourages participation in man's reign). I feel Barack Obama REALLY CARES (and has not told an outright lie or misrepresentation about his opponent). There are so many outright lies and misrepresentations about Obama. If you care to, go to BarackObama.com and get the real facts. I just got an email today about how McCain is saying Obama will raise taxes because of his 94 previous votes. McCain scewed the statistics and if he was judged by the same statistics he would have voted over 400 to raise taxes. I have heard so many outright, undeniable lies by McCain. If for no other reason, I would vote against him for being a habitual lier. Very trivial, but why did he tell David Letterman he couldn't be on his show because he was immediately leaving for Washington - and really he was preparing for an interview with Katie Couric? If he felt it was an inappropriate venue at the time why didn't he just say that, instead of an outright lie????? I don't think he is conscious of what a lie is. Done. I feel I have lost 2 friendships because of this feud, I don't want to lose any more. We each know where the other stands and that's that. We can respect each other's opinion and feelings, right?
I guess this has gone on every 4 years for other people, but this is the first time for me (since JFK). So maybe I don't know how to deal with it.
